I've been rotating between three cleansing balms for the last two months, and today I bring you reviews and comparisons of all three:

  • Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser (technically a jelly but it works the same way as a balm; previously reviewed here) ($34 for 118 ml/4 oz.)
  • su:m37 Skin Saver Melting Cleansing Balm (~$28-50 for 100 ml online)
  • Banila Co. Clean It Zero Purity (for sensitive skin) (~$19-25 for 100 ml online)

01 NYX Highlight Contour Pro Palette ReviewAnother day, another contouring palette. That's what it seems like, doesn't it? Never underestimate the power of the Kardashian bump to something previously reserved for makeup pros and serious makeup addicts (ahem, Renee). One of the recent entrants to the market is the NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette ($25 for 8 powders; provided for consideration by NYX). I was one day into my resolved no-buy (March and April) when I came across the Collagen Resilience Oil in Balm Cream by Dotfree in Make Asobi in LA's Little Tokyo. Several minutes of rationalizing later, I was handing over my credit card. (I think I still get a pat on the back for leaving with only this. Er, although I get a kick in the face for how I did during the rest of my no-buy.)

From the bizarre files of Japan skin care comes this sheet mask pack of 2 made with faces of a tiger and a panda from the Ueno Zoo printed on it:

It was part of the monthly-ish beauty box that Angela and I swap. We have a very popular and stylish beauty box (Rox Box) subscription service that's ultra exclusive with membership of 2. Anyhow I was super excited to try these because I thought they would contain tiger and panda ingredients. No I didn't really…:(

Chosungah 22 is a Korean brand recently added to Sephora's roster.  (Check out its English site here and prepare to drool.)

01 Chosungah 22 Dong Gong Minn Brow Maker Grey Brown ReviewThe only product currently available on Sephora is the Dong Gong Minn Brow Maker ($22 for 0.37 oz.).  As fortune would have it, I spotted these in one of the bins lining the checkout line at the Sephora in the Flatiron District.  It's super new to Sephora: there was no product sign and the sales associates were just as curious about it as I was.

I cannot get enough of dat ass milk. I mean really, there's something irresistible about the promise of nutritious, creamy, soothing milk that's close to what yer mama used to feed you that makes me wanna use it in ALL my beauty products. So I squealed when Angela sent me this:

Whatevs. Get off my ass @Angela :p

Wait, no, underneath the note was this:

From the Taiwan 03-2015 haul files come this little cheapie treasure of an eye mask. It cost $0.50! And the first ingredient is goooooold:

There are only ~10 ingredients and the first few seem natural and "good" for moisture. I think grape leaf extract is good for anti-aging. But I don't know if this mask would do all that it promises because…who needs to minimize pores around the under eye area? I'm not even sure that our eye bags have pores. Anyways I just wanted a bit of hydration under my eyes because stupid New York has turned cold again (wtf happened to Spring??) Here is the ingredient list:  Continue reading "Gilty Pleasure – ELG Luxury Gold Collagen Eye Mask"

For those unfamiliar with natto: it's a fermented soy bean that has a strong smell and taste. Why this inspired Soffygirl to make a mask out of natto is a mystery to me. Perhaps it's because Asians like beauty products made from fermentation. And food?

Since I brought a bunch of found-only-in-Asia sheet masks home from Taiwan, I'd been especially cheap with trying to make them last more than one use. No, GROSS, I am not saving the USED sheet mask. I am saving the leftover serum in the pouches. Usually there's a couple of teaspoons of serum left in the tear away pouch. Voila! Instant mask #2 by using those pill-like compressed face mask sheets:

Innisfree Water Glow Cushion ($14 for 15g refill) claims to bestow a radiant glow with natural coverage in addition to SPF50+ and PA+++.

01 Innisfree Water Glow Cushion 23 ReviewThe Innisfree cushions are reputed to run light. That definitely rang true for the Water Glow cushion, which is the only one from Innisfree that I've tried. I ordered a refill inNo. 23 True Beige, hoping that it would match my winter color, which is a MAC NC15 and typically a 21 in other cushion brands. Indeed, the 23 was a good fit and I've been using it interchangeably with my shade 21 cushions this winter.
